PYGMIES OF THE CENTRAL AFRICAN REPUBLIC AND UBANGUI RIVER EXPEDITION

This expedition by boat and easy trek takes you to the Bayaka Pygmies,
still living as hunter/gatherers in the Lobaye Forest. Your course
follows the Ubangi River into the great equatorial forest of the
"CAW' and the Congo. Considered the first inhabitants
of Africa, these "little people of the forest" took refuge
in this immense jungle and consider the forest as their mother protector
and provider. They have remained nomadic throughout the centuries, moving
from camp to camp and living on the honey, roots, fruits, leaves that they
can gather as well as the game they can hunt with bow and arrow or trap.
Their cultural life is rich with dancing and singing that recount the ancient
legends of the forest. Following a flexible itinerary as you follow them
into the forest, you'll observe their life style and share in their evenings
of song and dance. And, as you journey down the Ubangi and the Lobaye
Rivers, you'll visit villages of other ethnic groups and find the rivers
alive with fishermen and merchants. This is a part of a pristine Africa
still happily overlooked by tourism.
