GROUP AND CUSTOM TOURS

TO REMOTE TRIBAL PEOPLES

AND UNIQUE ADVENTURE DESTINATIONS.

Dear Fellow Adventurers,

From our beginnings sixteen years ago with our first itineraries into the Sahara Desert, Turtle Tours has indeed grown! That initial passion for the Sahara has evolved into an equally intense interest for the nomadic and tribal peoples of the Sahara and for tribal peoples all over the world. Today we bring you many trips worldwide, all of which fit into our under-lying goal...to offer you unique destinations...and unique peoples. Ours is an eco-tourism that desires to preserve the world's last pristine environments for the tribal peoples still living within them.

Turtle Tours has been featured on TV travel shows, in many magazines and newspapers including The New York Times, The London Times, Travel and Leisure and Escape Magazine, as well as many guide books, such as Travels on the Edge and The Big Book of Adventure Travel. Turtle Tours has recently completed documentary films with National Geographic, Discovery Channel, Lonely Planet and other film makers about several of the tribal peoples Turtle Tours has the privilege to visit.”

Thank you for celebrating our sixteenth anniversary with us!

"NOMADS OF THE HUMAN CONDITION",
UN sponsored international Television Series

Irma Turtle is featured, along with the Dalai Lama and Steve McCurry (internationally acclaimed photojournalist), in a 13 chapter series for television focusing on “modern day nomads”. Individuals were selected for their efforts to help humanity. Irma’s 30 minute segment was filmed on location in Niger during the Turtlewill Mission in March, 2002. The subject of the film is Turtlewill’s ongoing projects involving medical, educational, agricultural and economic support of the Wodaabe and the Tuareg nomads. The series will begin airing in January, 2003

“I’m interested in tribal people and I find Irma Turtle to be unique among tour leaders offering programs that include sensitivity to the people along with ecological considerations of their land. The extraordinary effort of planning and preparing trips to these difficult destinations is an admirable feat and, I like to sit back and leave those problems to someone else so I can take photos... I've been to Ethiopia twice with Irma Turtle as well as to Niger...l plan to be a constant traveler with Turtle Tours.” John Watson, CA

"You have a fascinating way of luring people from one intriguing adventure to another. Beware! Turtle Tours are addictive." "Del" Del Junco, Mali, Ethiopia, Middle East, Mauritania, Niger, Chad

“I have taken over ten trips with Irma Turtle to breathtaking and exotic landscapes in Africa, Indonesia, Asia and India, but of greatest impact to me is the people. Irma’s enthusiasm and concern for her many tribal friends is infectious. With her I have made friends around the world and learned so much about their lives and outlooks that it has changed my own.” Leslie Clark, Nomad Gallery, Ojai, CA
